.....so jolly!
I can hardly wait 'til Monday when I pick out a backing for this quilt. Only a few weeks to go until I am actually quilting this wonderful quilt! I am almost beside myself at the thought of this being a finished quilt.
I wasn't sure I could finish this border by the end of the month like I'd wanted. On Friday morning I hung the border up on the design wall to see where I was at. So cool, at that point only 5 more flowers and one circle to go! This could be do-able, I thought!
I wish I could just keep at it with an applique marathon and be done but that's not going to happen. We are having a fun weekend out and about, a mini-holiday.
It feels like we've been housebound this Summer with our puppies so we had an outing on Saturday and today we head out to Stratford to see a play and walk around the town.
This morning I'm "enjoying" some slow stitching on this flower, one of the last to involve the dreaded (to me) reverse applique.
Selvege, selvedge, selvage?
I'm never certain on how to spell it, so I've looked it up and now I know it's "selvage".
I'm not one to get caught up in the making of quilts using selvages, but when I think of it I do cut them off to donate to friends.
This week I was pressing a new piece of fabric and the selvage caught my eye...
"Leap and the net will appear".....how wonderful! Have I been missing something by not taking note of selvages before now? Are they always like reading a fortune cookie??? Maybe I'll have to be on the lookout for a selvage project in the future....like maybe a totebag or a cushion? I may be a convert!
Time to finish my coffee and a few more stitches before heading out for some fun.
I am linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching and with Cynthia at Quilting is More Fun Than Housework for Oh Scrap!.
Another fun blog post to look at this week is Pets on Quilts 2016. So many people have joined in by sharing pictures of their pets and quilts. I had a shot of Cooper with his puppies that I submitted.
Have a lovely Summer day!
Beautiful applique flowers here and enjoy your day! :)
ReplyDeleteAll of your fabrics are so bright and colorful. Enjoy your mini-holiday and your stitching.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, whimsical flowers! I need to start an Applique project! I collect selvages and have made several selvage projects. I need to make another one as the bin is overflowing, again!
ReplyDeleteYour gorgeous applique always makes me smile! I'm looking forward to seeing the whole quilt put together!
ReplyDeleteI've never collected selvages either, but they are fun to look at, and all the projects you see out there make it very tempting to start collecting them. Your applique project looks like it will be a really beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteI collected selvages (I think any of the spellings are recognizeable to a quilter) for a while and made some blocks with them. Then gave them away. Just too stiff to make me happy. There are some very interesting ones on fabric edges the last few years. I think about saving them for someone else to use but don't.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is going to be a stunner for sure. Your work is beautiful and I can't wait to see what you will choose for a backing Happy Stitching
ReplyDeleteYour flower colors are so perfect, bright and cheery! I never pay attention to selvage's either! I cut and throw them right away(into the pile for a friend to make pet pillows).
ReplyDeleteOhhh the flower garden is almost done... so exciting!
ReplyDeleteI love interesting selvages although I haven't done much with them yet!
We (or at least I do) call them "selvedges" down here in New Zealand, and I have made several small projects, such as place mats, and a selvedge Christmas Tree wall hanging. I have a bag full, still waiting to be used.
ReplyDeleteI think all three spellings are acceptable and I love selvages. My cousin saves hers for me but any time you want to pass on some, I'm ready to accept. (smile) The little message on yours was darling! Haven't seen any message ones yet.
ReplyDelete"The message on the selvedge"....a new mystery tale? LOL. I just used some of that Kaffe millefiori (in another colorway). Lovely flower.
ReplyDeleteYour work is so lovely. I wish I could started with something simple. But hang on to those selvages. Debbie mentioned something about them for a Christmas project. I'm sure she's full of ideas and once she's better we'll hear more about it.
