Rabbit Holes and Pineberries!

I did manage to get a few stitches in this morning despite sleeping in a bit. A perfect morning for it as it is rainy, cold and gloomy! I'm supposed to go for a run in an hour, but it's hard to imagine getting motivated to get ready and out the door!

I've been making steady progress on my Down The Rabbit Hole BOM.

I still need to prep a few of the circular flowers.  I do have some ready but I'm not sure they will show up against the background.

Here they are placed on the piece....would love some feedback. I probably will replace them, it wouldn't be much at all to do so.

Hmmm, looking at the picture, I think I can see my answer clearly!

We've had a bit of a start to Spring gardening. We've planted something called Pineberries...

Image result for pineberries

They are like a strawberry, but white and with the flavour of pineapples. Most of them have been planted in the garden, but we've read that they can do well in containers, so we've put two in a pot...

They seem to be happy, so far!

I am linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching and with Quilting is More Fun Than Housework for Oh, Scrap!.

Have a lovely Spring day!

  2. Down the Rabbit Hole is working up beautifully. Very striking. I see what you are saying about the lighter circle flowers, but I think I like the effect of having some pop and some recede. My eye enjoyed wandering the garden and finding the lighter blooms. Thanks for sharing on SSS ... Happy Sunday ... :) Pat

  3. I've never even pine berries before. Sounds like something interesting to try, given the opportunity. The lighter flowers show up but are subtle. I would probably replace them with brighter circles so they show up better.

  4. I think just a few light colored flowers would be fun. But not too many. I saw pine berries at the nursery the other day. I will be interested to hear what you think. Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!

  7. Your applique block is beautiful! I can see what you mean about some of the lighter colored flowers, but like your other commenters, I like the darks and lights mixed together. The pineberries sound interesting. I wonder if they wouod grow here in Colorado.

  8. I love Down the rabbit hole and i love your version. It is a personal decision whether to replace or not! No one can decide for you. I re-do sometimes if there is a question in my mind if it is right. One reason why I applique using freezer paper is so I can lay out my entire block in a finished form without having to stitch it first. The smaller, finished sized pieces make it easier to see if I like what I am doing. I like what you are doing!!

  9. For me, I don't think you need to replace the circles that don't stand out against the background. If you want more contrast, though, go for it!

  10. I totally agree with what others have said ... there's only one I'd even consider replacing (the light green one at the top) but the center of that one is dark enough that it does catch your eye and seeing the background then is a happy surprise!! :)

  11. What a fun new plant that I've never heard of before!
I wouldn't replace anything! You could stitch around the outside of the circles that you want to stand out more if you want... maybe some buttonhole stitching with dark floss?
